After a stress jammed week, and month if we’re honest (Im in ad sales, calling business owners, in the 2011 community), I was looking forward to a little RnR. I already knew I had a lot ahead of me for the weekend. I volunteered to host the halloween bash for my friends’ circle and just like my contractors I call every month, Ive procrastinated to get everything done till last minute. That means wrap up halloween costume, clean, decorate, buy supplies. But Im like a typical human and work best under pressure (or so I use that as the excuse because really at the final hour you have no other choice). And like many people I know, I fell in the group of rushing around, supper annoyed that everything wasnt falling magically into my lap.
I wont even rant about what happened last night because I dont dare want you to feel sorry for me. Okay I’ll summarize it just to paint the picture. Iphone4 started to deteriorate throughout the day. Costume store closed a minute after I arrived. ATT store couldnt fix phone. Apple store (already super busy)- 3 hour wait to get phone looked at. Mom arrives at my house with no key to enter my home. Boyfriend is busy with friends. Leaving me to coordinate all of these pickles by a waining technology device in a jam packed room of Iphone fans. I was tired, hungry, and duh… annoyed.
Once things got cleared up with my boyfriend and mom (who are in fact Saints for their intentions that night and how they are able to just let things go- ie my attitude), I was able to relax. Upon my wait, and management of annoyance, I ran into two previous college classmates and was able to bond in laughing at our frustrations. That surely helped…but what made me warm from the inside, and laugh hysterically, was a wonderful gentleman who tapped on my shoulder. I thought, “alas! my appointment”- however, instead it was an apple employee who used to take my spin class. He shared with me how much he enjoyed it, and most specifically when I would say, “yeah, yeah!”. This motivated him to push harder. I couldnt stop laughing and smiling, realizing that sometimes you just need to stop and chuckle with the apple guys, apple logo wearing, IPAd toting and all. He had since moved to another locale which prevented him from coming, but he truly made my night. I forgot about everything that had been frustrating me that night. And THEN whadya know? My phone was changed out for free- problem solved and in fact a better phone to boot. Feeling silly I came home to a wonderful boyfriend and mother decorating my home for the big weekend bash. And when I say decorating, I say making my house look like an arts and crafts convention exploded in my home. To call my mother talented is an understatement and to call my boyfriend sweet, would be the same. He took me to sushi and listened to my whole story…and yes, okay I wanted him to feel sorry for me 🙂
Moral of the story- anything that seems like a huge pain in the toosh is most definitely worth the wait. As someone who preaches this daily, theres nothing like a little real world situation to provide the metaphor you prescribe to in life. Heres a little pic from me to you revealing a relaxed Maria at the wonderful Halloween bash. Lots of time and effort, but truly a success!
