I’m excited to reveal my secret to you guys because I’ve recently RE-discovered it. As you know I’m always wanting to help others accomplish their goals, as Ive accomplished many of mine, but I’m also consistently pursuing new goals of my own. Its fun- keeps me on my toes- and I love having things to look forward to while never forgetting where I came from. To recap, last week I wrote to you all that I was finding resistance when trying to accomplish certain physical goals, and had to come back to MY WHY in order to reflect, re -asses and move forward. As I realized it wasn’t about being 2-3 lbs lighter, or even about being my best me, the best role model possible, etc…at the end of the day it was about feeling empowered and loved. When I look back to the time I conquered my health and fitness goals originally (losing 40 lbs), I also tackled career goals, personal relationship goals, had tons of quality family time, and was just plain focusing on all the things that mattered to me- I didn’t feel deprived in any aspect of my life as I was tackling being the best me in all the areas I felt important- not just one.
So interestingly enough, Ive had success this week, and sure maybe being sick helped, or it was just the plain blessing I needed, to forget about food and remember what else is oh so important to me. When I work on my dream, and am actively pursuing my passions, nurturing the relationships in my life and soaking up the moments spent with my loved ones, when I get fresh air and do things for fun and forget about all the daily to-dos, and when I’m not resenting work, but in fact relishing in the blessing that it is, an incredible place, great people, providing me the energy and means to continue to feel empowered and loved…food becomes a glorious supplement. The food journaling keeps me in line and helps me feel empowered because I’m a list type of girl, and my workouts are fun and social for me, especially as a teacher, but when I do have a treat its less monumental because I can feel satisfied and move on to the other pleasures in my life. When I’m hungry, not all the pressure is on the food to satisfy my soul, when I’ve got my other pursuits to fill me as much, if not more than those delicious meals we all look forward to.
It may seem cliche, but the more we realize whats important to us, go after it moment by moment, step by step, the less the pressure will be to “diet” and reach this physical ideal. Instead, it will be another step towards the overall greatness were going after. If you can figure out the feelings you want day to day, or as a whole in your life, who and what helps you feel that way, or what else you can do if you’re missing those feelings completely, you may find that your health and fitness accomplishments will come with less resistance than if you only concentrated on your diet.
Don’t wait until you’re the perfect size, or you’ve had a perfect week of diet and working out to… to live. Live in color while you’re at it! Those who accomplish in one aspect of their life, often accomplish in the other aspects of their life they prioritize. I’m not saying you have to do it all in order to accomplish one thing. I’m saying if we can take the pressure off diet and exercise by focusing on all the things WE WANT in our life, then food will play a great role in helping us get there. Personally, the times I’ve been my most healthy (and consequently smallest) are the times I’ve felt the most fulfilled because I’ve been actively pursuing my passions. Eating well and working out just so happened to help that process versus being the focus of it.
If you’re looking to makeover your look, or lifestyle, whats one goal you can set for yourself outside of health and fitness? Try pairing this passion pursuit with eating well and fun exercise and hopefully you’ll feel that shift in momentum forward you’ve been looking for.
Lets live in color together!
