Greetings Lettuce Heads!
Im writing you from La Guardia airport! Due to a crazy day of cancelled, delayed, stuck on the runway for 3 hour flights, I was forced to stay overnight in NYC. There was one room available at the Red Roof Inn in Flushing, an Asian town, and I had to spend $200 to secure it. I now have a flight today getting me to my final destination of home, sweet home …so I hope this goes smoother getting in to Indy safe and sound. The hold up was due to West Coast weather creating a crazy traffic jam on the runway. I will admit this is my first time staying in a hotel all by myself, in a foreign city, ordering Chinese take out for delivery. It was definitely an adventurous cherry on top of my splendid family vacation- which was a blast, and so worth the airline obstacle course. Sitting in my room with won ton soup, and skype-ing my boyfriend, it was actually a pretty cool view. Im proud that I kept calm, didnt freak, and made it through the night alive.
Now many of you know that Im the oldest of 6 kids. It makes me very much of who I am. They are the best company I can keep, I love them so much it hurts- if you can’ t tell family is so very dear to me. We have my Mom and Dad’s family in different states, so when we visit its always a sincere treat. Annually, we’ve made it to the Jersey shore to eat fudge, ice cream, shop on the boardwalk, ride carnival like roller coasters, bask in the beach, and boogie board the Atlantic Ocean waves.
Every week I have a goal of making what I love, and know is important to me, a priority. That is most absolutely family time- so Im more than happy I took a few days off and soaked up quality “like the lettuce” family time. Heres a nice reel of my short and sweet trip (sorry no NYC or Chinese take out pictures):
Track speed workout at Ocean City HS right around the corner. Ive still got some speedy strong legs as I held my ground with my explosive collegiate soccer playing sister. Crazy storm was coming!
Having two siblings training for soccer season is the best motivation ever. Loved working out with them.
On my recovery day, put my Mom through a board walk/beach workout. She kept begging me to work her out. Proud of her hard work over the past year- shes the tightest Ive seen her!
We took some fun pics along the way
Best shades around. Point blank period.
Working it- deeper pushups Mom!
Sweat and sandy hands exhibited hard work
True treasures of my heart- my two youngest sisters Sophia and Bella. At brunch!
Check out my cousin Dana’s sweet Oakley shades! She and I used to finger paint together.
My “the cool one” sister inspires me to mix it up with my hair, fashion, and showcase my bodaciousness
Cant you just tell she’s rad?
Extra sprinkles (Jimmy’s) please
Hot down the shore! Cool clothing, Oakley Half Jackets, and Serious workout face
My handsome and super cool brothers
Pop Pop Romaine. I love ya.
Though my family is there the rest of the week, my short and sweet time was incredible. I didnt need perfect sunny days, expensive dinners out, or even that much RnR. The family time I received was priceless. As the greatest support network of all, I am truly a blessed individual, and am carrying that back with me in my big old corny heart.
Do yourself a favor. Spend time with loved ones, and this is crucial: give yourself some time to reflect on it. It will tickle your soul.
Until next time!
Maria “Like the Lettuce” Romaine, xoxo
