Happy Friday Lettuce Heads. Are you ready for the weekend or what?
Many of you know Ive been reading different books, listening to different podcasts, all centering around personal development. There hasnt been a day Ive regretted tapping into the varying resources- digesting it all together, little by little OR like a smack in the face. One take away Ive really been utilizing is Danielle LaPorte’s suggestion to make a “To Feel” list, in addition to or even instead of our “To Do” lists. So many times we cross off everything we have on our long list of to do’s in order to a feel a certain way. However, if we dont identify what we’re really looking to feel or why we do things in the first place, certain things taking priority for some unanswered reason, we may come up empty handed, lost, or dissatisfied a lot of the time. Many people who make “To do” lists seek the feeling of productivity, however do we ever ask ourselves how being productive makes us feel? And being productive in WHAT particular do we enjoy most? WHY do we like feeling productive?
The 5 words I came away with, after a nice long mental exercise of asking what I REALLY want to feel in life, day to day, even specific to unique, individual situations, were: Secure, Confident, Loving, Inspiring, and Alive.
So if I know every day that I want to feel this way, and make sure that I identify the actions in my day that can be crossed off, all helping me feel this way, I sure have a heck of a clearer goal and have a lot more satisfaction in my life, in my day to day, situation to situation. Kind of like the old saying “whatever helps you sleep at night”. Or even better, “what drives you wake up in the morning?” After performing this exercise and writing things out, I realized how much of what I do leads to these feelings-confirming the pride I have in myself for listening to what I want. Whether its the car I drive, task management at work, in my relationships, in my workout, teaching classes, helping people through challenge groups, or writing my blog- I can continually cross off my “To Feel” list at the end of the day and maybe even cooler… saying no to the things that just don’t go along with how I want “To feel”.
How do I want to feel today? Alive?! Yup- take the doors off!
How could I not be loving with this guy? If you know me and my headband, ponytail style, I don’t let my hair down often, but when I do, its most certainly with him. I feel loving, I feel secure, I feel alive.
I know what food makes me feel like Im loving myself for eating it, appropriate amounts of fuel AND enjoyment 🙂 Visually colorful and cute meals!? yes please. Do I inspire you? I feel like I do. Walking around with confidence all day that I fueled my body good.
When I workout, I want to feel strong and fast. These are HOT. Confident, inspiring, alive.
I want to feel like Im having the time of my life when I workout, combining endorphins with great music- its a party! Inspiring others to do the same. Teaching Turbo Kick and Spin. Im alive, inspiring, confident, secure in myself, and so loving I continually surprise myself with how much I care. I mostly get these feelings by absorbing the energy in the room- they inspire me.
So this may resonate with you, and/or you could be wondering where doing the things that normally annoy you or drive you nuts comes into play, but you still HAVE to do them. Obligation. Duty. Loyalty. When I look at the things that I sometimes complain about, I know Id still do them regardless because I want to and its important to me. Its important to me because it helps me feel loving and secure. My family comes first- I LOVE THEM, paying the bills secures my safety, treating my body right is loving myself, allowing me to be confident, and inspiring others to do the same, doing my best at everything I do helps me feel confident that Im doing everything I could be to be the best me for me and everyone around me.
Sure, be productive- you know how it makes you feel. Cross off that “To Do” list, but if you can ask how it makes you feel and what you want to feel today, in life, with each specific situation you’re in, you might just find yourself figuratively, or in my case literally, letting your hair down, taking your doors off and living your life more purposefully.
Heres to a rockin’ weekend!
