Alright guys, this winter I plan to wear lots of warm cozy clothing just like the rest of the world. Who doesnt love a gorgeous coat, unique trendy hat or just a solid set of long underwear? The purpose of these clothes is to keep us warm in the cold, so we can still go about our every day life. I know that its not super convenient to hit up a ski resort or go sledding or take long walks in the park once winter rolls around. Outdoor exercise is like nothing else. I’ll miss my tri’s, long bikes out in the country, and runs along the monon. Fortunately Ive got a wicked diverse palate and I love to try new things/find new fitness loves. I suggest that you explore that exotic side yourself and join me.
This time last year I gained 10 lbs, and even though I wasnt the 25-30 pounds I was a few years ago, I was very unhappy with what happened because I knew that it was all my fault. I was going out lot, eating extraordinarily poor on the weekends, and even though I was still working out hard, I just was not being accountable with my fuel (ie calories in). Because Im now at my best weight ever and feeling the healthiest I have in awhile, Im going to list off some rules Im going to abide by and also some things that I plan to implement to make sure I maintain the shape Ive worked so hard to achieve.
1- No matter what, no excuses, workout hard 5-6x a week, 7 times if you include something less intense.
2– Monitor my calories on livestrong.com
3- Treat myself on the weekends, most realistically once a weekend whether it be eating out or a night out with friends (liquid calories). Still tracking it to the best of my abilities. You can look up restaurant calories so easily now people.
4- Read motivating messages (facebook, Chalenes book Push, different healthy lifestyle blogs). A few cool ones I like: Katheats.com, Carrotsncake.com, Eat yourself skinny, Hungry Girl, Kim Dolan Leto’s website, Jamie Eason: Bodybuilding.com
5- Weigh in every week (daily if you choose)
6- Drink shakeology
7- Make the holidays about spending time with loved ones, with the food as a plus, not the main component
8- Go Ice Skating, Bowling, Play in the snow
9- Plan a fun snow related/cold weather related trip (I can take advantage of my new jeep, whoo hoo) where I can be active and get out of the house
10- Look up all the different classes I can participate in throughout the week so I have options to do something fun and something to look forward to (Yoga, Taerobics, Dance studios, different classes at the Y, a great time to incorporate weight lifting or try out TRX or even cross fit)
11- Hold myself accountable by sharing it with you all. This is such a powerful tool. Id suggest joining a group, whether it be one of the challenges I run, or start journaling. You could even have a workout partner where you guys weigh in every week with eachother. Make sure you have a person who is just as committed as you are.
12- Try out a wicked workout video program so I have it in the convenience of my own home, especially useful when we get snowed in. Im going to get one of these programs specifically: TurboFire, Insanity, P90x2. And if you want these programs, buy them from me! I can be your coach!
13- Train for something. Even though I put on 10 lbs last year, I started training for my first mini marathon, and this is what was part of a catalyst to get back on track. Last winter was the start of also shedding the weight and also participating in my first half marathons plus my triathlon career. You can start yours too, and all indoors! Im going to continue my triathlon training- should be a fun second year going them.
You guys can make the winter of 2011 the perfect jump start for 2012. Catalyze the lifestyle you want now, why be predictable and hop on the New Year New Habits bandwagon? I know you all are way more original than that!
Here are some before’s Id like to share with you. Im still adorable, dont get me wrong, but on a 5’2 frame, I carried 40 lbs of unhealthy weight.
Im refusing to be anywhere near my “before’s” and am all about the “after’s”. This is who I see in the mirror now and who Ive always known was in there. And shes sure as heck not going anywhere!
